Information about the Delta region of northwest Mississippi.
The Delta Region is situated between the Mississippi River
and the Yazoo River. The region is about 200 miles long
and 70 miles wide and it is considered by some to be
the most southern part of the deep south. Before the
Civil War this region was one of the richest cotton growing
areas in the United States and many cotton plantatation
homes were situated on the river banks. The Region is known
as the birthplace of African American blues and jazz and
the music genre known as rock and roll.
