San Marcos National Fair
The most popular events at the San Marcos Fair
are the bullfights, the cockfights, and the fair's casino
in downtown Aguascalientes. There
is also a livestock fair, charreadas (rodeos),
concerts, theater and dance performances, parties in the street,
nightly fireworks, amusement rides, industry exhibitions,
and lots of traditional Mexican music and food.
It is one of the largest and oldest fairs in Mexico and it is
considered to be the National Fair of Mexico. The fair takes place
in the San Marcos neighborhood of the city of Aguascalientes,
Festival de las Calaveras
The Festival de las Calaveras (Festival of Skulls) is
an annual event honoring Mexican sculptor
Jose Guadalupe Posada, who was born in the city of
Aguascalientes. The festival takes place every year
at the end of October and beginning of November.
Jose Posada is most famous for his skull figures such as
La Calavera Catrina. After his death in 1913 his
images have become associated with the Mexican Holiday
"Dia de los Muertos".
Pilgrimage of the Assumption
Another important event in that city is the Pilgrimage of the
Assumption on August 15th, which features a parade, dancing,
and other activities.
