There are several Mayan archaeological sites
within the boundaries of this large wilderness park
in the Peten area of Guatemala, including
El Mirador, which is adjacent to Mexico's
Calakmul Archaeological Zone and
Rio Azul, which is located deep in the jungle
near Guatemala's western border with Belize.
There is a movement ot create a new National
Park in Guatemala called the Mirador Basin National Park.
